Halloween

Halloween Time in the Gaslamp

The Gaslamp Quarter's history dates back to the late 1800's, so we should expect that a few ghost stories have been repeated over the years. Notorious wild characters like gunslingers, gamblers and prostitutes lived and died in the Gaslamp Quarter so it is very possible that their spirits live on in the dark recesses of our historic buildings. You'll be sure to find a ton of activities and costume contests at our many bars, nightclubs and taverns. We have more than 100 haunts nearby. You'll find wicked nightclubs, laid back lounges and just about everything you can imagine in between.

Keep an eye out for the new Halloween banners hung along Fifth Avenue and Market Street. This year, we have partnered with artist John Pelico of KillerPumpkins to bring you the spookiest banner program yet. John created the entire Gaslamp Halloween theme, which can be seen throughout our website and the district.

John Pelico

KillerPumpkins creator/author and illustrator, John Pelico, graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art. He continued his formal training in illustration and design at the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena. Later he went on to work in the television industry for ABC and CBS studios before branching out on his own and starting his own company, PELICO and Associates.

But it’s John’s love for Halloween that truly inspires him. Being the Halloween enthusiast that he is has sparked his creativity and taken his talent to another level. He has created a signature look that is recognized throughout the industry and known by some as the “Disney of Halloween.”

As the spooky-brilliance of this artwork continues to thrive, it’s no doubt that his unique style will change the face of Halloween for future generations of Halloween fans, young and old alike.
