And as quickly as they invaded, they were gone. Traces of Comic-Con have all but disappeared and the streets of Gaslamp appear as if it never even happened. I guess these sidewalks are so used to a hundred years of ups, downs and visitors surges, that this past week of excitement was just a drop in the bucket. It's back to our normal level of excitement and as always we have something to share. We've got new restaurants and some unique to Gaslamp goodies that have us excited for our San Diego summer.
Today's suggested event? Wed July 28th - Be part of An Olympic Fundraiser - Support the USA Women's K4 (Canoe/Kayak) National Team to the World Championships. Join the team for apps and a drink $20. Red Circle 7pm. More Info? Click Here . . .
Good News - Searsucker is officially open. No longer will you need a remote control in your hands to see the charming Brian Malarkey. Most folks know he's got that winning TV personality (Bravo's Top Chef, Housewives of Orange County, TLC's Mega Bites) and he's a sweet family man (twins on the way!) but let's not forget it was the food that made him famous. He's just one of those kooky but passionate, food lover's foodie, so I am 100% confident his "New American Classic" restaurant is going to be plenty successful. I've made a visit - I've sampled - I'll return. (veni - vidi - feed me?)
Gaslamp also has the pleasure of being home to a new great playground from good time guys Matt Spencer & Tyler Charman (Vin de Syrah, Firehouse PB, Aubergine) Analog simply boasts "Good Food & Strong Drinks". Sure. . .the big trend right now is urban gastronomy and complicated elixirs but not at this address.
Visitors to the corner of 5th Ave & F Street will find it to be part recording studio, part game room and part dive bar. A fabulous mix! This place might come off as too cool for school but the reality is they'll let anyone sing karaoke or play video games and they've busted out tater tots on their menu for heaven's sake. With their kitchen open until 3am on weekends, it's totally worth a visit. I might stay for two weeks and pretend I'm at my own little Summer camp.
Calling all Carnivores. If your idea of a good time involves massive consumption of hearty proteins you've probably been to a churrascaria. These Brazilian steakhouses sear a variety of select cuts over open flame and serve them in abundance. The newest location serving up an abbreviated version of this type of Churrasco Barbeque is on the corner of 4th Ave & G St sharing space with YogoTango. Look for Boi Preto the next time you are craving the flavor without the temptation to completely over-indulge. This stop has a fresh salad buffet, some interesting hot dishes and exclusive yummy sauces to go with your one trip to the carving station. With eight offerings of Chicken, Sausages and of course, varied cuts of Beef, you can try one of each or concentrate on your favorites. Trust that it is more than enough food. Next time you are looking for a new spot to try or you find yourself in a hurry & hungry, consider the journey to Brazil via Gaslamp.
Our good friend, Diana Cavagnaro is a very busy bee! She prepared more than a dozen fashionable hats for elite guests at last week's Opening Day at Del Mar Racetrack and local response has been so great that's now she has decided to open her private studio on a regular basis. Her "Desginer Millinery" loft at 4th & K Street is the ultimate stop to create a custom chapeau but now you can also swing by to investigate her incredible inventory without an appointment [MWF - Noon to 6pm]. If that wasn't enough, she's also offering ECO-friendly tours of downtown's finest fashion haunts. Look for her Chic Fashion Tours! They highlight locally owned businesses carrying innovative fabrics such as bamboo, hemp, and organic cotton. The 4-hour jaunt stops at unique boutiques and independent stores in Gaslamp and beyond. The next tour is Saturday August 7 at 11:00am.
If you ever have a friend who owes you a favor going to Venice, you should hit them up for some Murano glass. This famous style offers extremely unique pieces as each element is crafted individually. Maybe you've seen their gorgeous jewelry or elegant paperweights but few have seen Murano lighting fixtures. Illuminate these beautiful Artisan designs for the most amazing effect and one of a kind look in your home. Explore these pieces and more at Kita Ceramics and Glass on 4th Ave just north of Island Ave.

We know your wallet is finicky right now, so we are making sure to share some good values with you each week. Our newest special features great values at one different place each week. We call it Happy Hour of the Week!
We've also heard about a yummy deal from The Melting Pot. They are kicking off Summer Double Date Nights. That means that every Sunday night through Labor Day, its only $99, per foursome, for a 4-course Fondue dippage-fest. If you're okay with sharing, go ahead and make some plans but note that reservations mentioning the special are required.
