Businesses located within the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District are automatically members of the GQA. The boundaries of the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District are the blocks between the south side of Broadway to the north side of Harbor Drive between the east side of 4th Avenue and the west side of 6th Avenue, as well as the one-block area along the west side of 4th Avenue between Market Street and Island Avenue. An assessment is levied annually on Business Tax Licenses registered by businesses located within the boundaries by the City of San Diego to fund the Business Improvement District.
There are many benefits to being a member business of the GQA, including:
- Recognition as a GQA Business – The GQA uses a number of media to inform the public of who makes up our dynamic neighborhood, including our website, social media, printed maps, and directory kiosks. Your membership includes a web listing, inclusion on social media promotions through the Gaslamp Quarter’s official social networks, and listings on print maps and directories
- Information services – Keep up to date on what’s going on in the community and impacts to your business through the GQA’s newsletters, meetings, and special forums.
- Event participation – Opportunity to participate in GQA special events, promotions, and other cooperative marketing, including advertising and radio/TV promotions
- Discounted advertising rates on the GQA website, kiosks, and collateral materials – save when you advertise with us and support your business community. Our reasonable rates reflect our non-profit status, with all funds generated going towards our efforts to improving and promoting our neighborhood
- Opportunity to serve on GQA Committees and Board of Directors – Our most active business partners garner the most benefit from working with us. You are asked to choose at least one committee to have a member of your staff participate on. Members that participate regularly for a period of at least six months are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors.
If your business is located outside the boundaries of the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District, but you would still like to be involved, Associate Membership may be for you. Those with a vested interest in being an active member of the GQA can apply for Associate Membership. Applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors and must be reviewed and approved by vote at a regularly scheduled, public meeting. Please note that there are significant geographic restrictions on eligibility for street-level businesses that rely on walk-in business.

The Downtown San Diego Partnership Clean & Safe Program is a property and business improvement district that provides enhanced services for six Downtown neighborhoods, including Core, Columbia, Cortez Hill, East Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, and the Marina District. Clean & Safe ambassadors patrol the streets 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and offer safety, maintenance, and outreach services for 275 blocks of the Downtown community.
