RECAP: San Diego Comic-Con brings over 130,000 people to the Gaslamp Quarter!

The 2017 San Diego Comic-Con took place last weekend bringing over 130,000 people to the Gaslamp Quarter! As per usual, the lines for panels were miles long, the Gaslamp Quarter was filled with activations, and there were thousands of people in awesome costumes. This year the Gaslamp Quarter Association (GQA) joined in on the fun, activating the space at 453 Fifth Avenue with a Rabbitville Hop-Up Gallery to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Gaslamp Quarter and parts of Downtown San Diego. Check out below for a recap of the fun Comic-Con activities GQA Staff were able to partake in!

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of San Diego Comic-Con 2017:

On Thursday morning, the GQA Staff, along with city officials and community leaders, went on a behind the scenes tour of Comic-Con led by the San Diego Convention Center staff before the show opened! It was a great experience seeing all the hard work the employees put in to create such an amazing event for fans all over the world, and of course a sneak peak of all the action without the crowds was quite awesome. See below for some pictures!

Outside San Diego Comic-Con 2017:

The outside of the Convention Center is just as exciting as the inside!

GQA Staff took the LAIKA Studios Experience tour and learned about all the detailed hard work necessary to create a stop motion animation film. Did you know 24 frames is needed just for 1 second of film?

Rabbitville – A Hop-Up Gallery:

“Rabbitville” honors the pioneering spirit of our legendary founder, Alonzo Horton, who transformed a dusty plain into modern San Diego. Many guests were able to see and take pictures of our beautifully decorated rabbit sculptures and learn a bit of San Diego history that they never heard of. Please share your Rabbitville pictures with us through social media by tagging us and #Rabbitville!

We would like to thank A.Y. Wong Management for generously donating the 453 Fifth Avenue space for our Hop-Up Gallery!

If you didn’t get a chance to see the rabbits at our Hop-Up Gallery, some are currently located Horton Grand Hotel (311 Island Avenue)!
