Juan Tequila, located at 535 Fourth Ave, explores the upscale presentations and innovative flavor combinations that have become hallmarks of Baja Mexican cuisine through a collection of small plates and larger entree dishes. This innovative 2,000 square foot Fourth Avenue space has leather seats, marble topped tables and a dramatic concrete bar embedded with sparking lights!
One of the owners Gustavo Giardelli greeted the GQA staff in his upscale eatery. Gustavo and his partner Jose Dabdoub have created a snapshot of Baja that brings a different dining and drinking experience to the Gaslamp Quarter and downtown.
What We Enjoyed:
- Lauren our server mixed up a beautiful “mock-tail” with passionfruit juice, club soda and berry compote- She named it the Gaslamp Passion!
- The Menu was full of delicious small plates, fresh seafood, and eclectic sauces so it was very hard to choose. Gustavo chose for us and gave us 3 delicious plates that we shared
- First we had the Pork Belly Confit Taquitos- This delicious dish had pork belly, grilled shrimp, Shredded Cabbage, Pico, a Crema and a Baja Diabla Sauce that gave it a little kick! The plate came with palm sized corn tortillas to dish the Confit into
- Hongos Mexicanos Al Mezcal- Beautiful Mexican Mushrooms sautéed with Mezcal sprinkled with earthy Mexican herbs and served with Bolillo bread on the side
- And then we had the Tostada Salpicon Rib-Eye- Fresh, tender, Rib Eye, beans, orchard escabeche vegetables like carrots, arugula, cucumbers, Mexican cheese on top of a crispy tortilla
