Restaurant Spotlight: Tropical Savor Bar & Grill

It was a chilly day in February when the GQA staff decided to transport to the Tropics by trying out the Fourth Avenue restaurant, Tropical Savor Bar & Grill. Tropical Savor Bar & Grill is an island-themed venue that serves a menu of Latin Caribbean cuisine with authentic dishes from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Cuba and Jamaica – including their food specialties. The authentic Latin Caribbean cuisine restaurant is decorated on its patio with a thatched awning and grass green accents. On the inside, the walls are adorned with Carnival Masks, parrots, and there is even a waterfall making guests feel like they are spending time in the Islands.

What We Enjoyed:

We started with Tostones (mini sandwiches.) This Fried Plantain Sandwich had a crisp, warm plantain crust with imported salami from New York and fried queso fresco with mayo-ketcho dipping sauce.

Next we tried the Mofongo, which is a traditional Puerto Rican dish served in a beautiful wooden goblet. The dish had fried, mashed, plantains with garlic sauce rimming the glass served with camorones quisados (stewed shrimp) and res quisado (stewed grass-fed beef) as well as a little salad of cucumbers, red onions and tomatoes.

Next we had the Sancocho, a perfect soup/stew for a blustery day! The rich broth had organic root vegetables like yucca root, yams, plantains and malanga. It also had a mixture of grass fed beef, organic chicken, and pork served with a side of arroz blanco (white rice)

With all of the delicious food we sipped fresh pineapple juice garnished with a festive orchid. Tropical Savor also offers a full bar with tropical cocktails, sangria, beer and wine, as well as freshly squeezed juices.
