In the Spotlight! GSO PRODUCTIONS

The 22nd Annual 2016 RMD Group Lamplighter Awards presented by The San Diego Union Tribune and Pacific Magazine celebrated the best of the Gaslamp Quarter! These awards are so meaningful because winners are selected by fellow Gaslamp Quarter businesses. The event this year was at Parq night club with a cocktail reception, an amazing grouping of delectable bites, silent/ live auction, and the event kicked off with an amazing video by GSO PRODUCTIONS!

“For this year’s Lamplighter Award show, we wanted to open with a video, just like they do for the Emmy’s. A smart introduction to the whole shebang. We immediately thought of GSO PRODUCTIONS.”

  • Michael Trimble, Executive Director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association

GSO PRODUCTIONS is a locally owned and operated film production company catering to projects big and small. GSO’s head guy, Chad Boyer, says, “We love working with small companies to create big looks. When filming a project, we learn from the inside out what makes a business tick, why the folks there feel so passionately about their product and organization. Our goal is to transfer that message from the company to the viewing audience, to excite the audience’s emotion, to create a powerful emotional response that lasts. The opportunity to spread the message via the internet makes video the perfect platform for companies to interact and touch their client base.”

GSO PRODUCTIONS’ signature is their cinematic look, bringing big budget production value to small-budget projects. “In the old days, which is five or more years ago,” Boyer says, “to get something cinematic was gonna start in the tens of thousands of dollars. But now, with the advent of quality digital cameras, we can get that look for less. As our website says, ‘If a picture is worth a thousand words, motion pictures are worth a million. We charge less.’ We have a film background, and we bring that cinematic sensibility to everything we make— lighting, cinematography, everything needs to say QUALITY without busting the bank. It’s no joke that every video we film, in the back of my mind, it’s ‘Would this be good enough to win the Oscar?’ Well, probably not. But we really do care passionately about the production value of every video we shoot. It’s our customers’ name, it’s ours. And if our customers are doing their very best to delivery high quality products and services, how can we do any less? That said, I believe everybody should have a video on their website. There is no better way to reach a potential client than with beautiful sight and sound that captures the very soul of a business.”

And regarding Hollywood, GSO PRODUCTIONS’ first feature film, 66 & NOWHERE is currently being reviewed by the Sundance Film Festival. “It’s a film-noir piece about a trumpet player on the run from the Chicago Mob who encounters a femme fatale and gets taken on the ride of his life in a ’66 Oldsmobile Delta 88. It’s a good, old school kinda film and we’re hopeful it gets picked up. In the meantime, we hone our craft and pay the bills by doing good work for local businesses at a fraction what Hollywood would charge. It seems to be a formula people like, so we’re gonna just keep doing that.”
