On Tuesday this week, the GQA staff was whisked away to a posh vacation resort during lunch time at the Pool House in Gaslamp Quarter’s The Pendry hotel. After hopping into an elevator off of the bustling 5th Ave street, we went up 2 floors to the pool deck complete with cabanas, lounge chairs, guests soaking in the sun and a posh “vacation like” vibe.
Once we settled into our cabana, we looked at the menu filled with refreshing sips like the St. Germain Cocktail, the Fresca Fizz or the Strawberry Daquiri, as well as Light Dishes, Salads, Sandwiches Burgers & Entrees or Sides.
Our group decided to start off with the lollypop chicken wings drizzled with homemade, buttery buffalo wing sauce with “just enough” spice, served with carrots celery and a homemade blue cheese dressing on the side. We also ordered a side of crispy fries seasoned with togarashi spices and ketchup.
Next we ordered our entrées. Sherry ordered the smashed avocado toast, with marinated cherry tomatoes and petit basil. Alex ordered the fish tacos, made with local yellowtail, cabbage slaw, chipotle creama, and guacamole. And I ordered the big eye tuna poke, with brown rice salad, cucumbers, avocado, seaweed and spicy aioli. Each of the plates were perfectly portioned and of course delicious.
As we enjoyed our food we looked out at the colorful deck of apolstered lounge chairs, turquoise and white rolled beach towels and guests being pampered in the San Diego sunshine. The light, contemporary, open-air, indoor/outdoor space plays host to relaxed daytime and evening events featuring a signature bar and cocktail experience. It truly was a lunch time vacation get away.
The pool house is open Monday- Friday for lunch from 11am-5pm and then evenings Mon-Sat from 5pm-10pm beginning with Happy Hour from 5PM-7PM with some of the same Light bites like the lollipop chicken wings and coconut ceviche but additions like sashimi or their apple and quinoa salad. $1 oysters and Lionfish favorites like Big Eye Tuna Pizza or the NY steak tataki are also available for dining at the Pool House! Sunday’s are filled with events, a dj and brunch.
